Corn Flakes: Why Is The Offensive Line So Bad, Big Ten Weekend Review

Nebraska’s o-line was terrible Saturday night. Why?

The game Saturday night against Purdue featured the worst offensive line performance that I’ve ever seen from a Nebraska football team. That’s saying a lot, considering that I’ve seen a lot of Nebraska football over the years. The 1992 Orange bowl, a 22 – 0 loss to Miami comes to mind is one of the other worst games ever, but in that game Nebraska was playing a far superior team. Purdue is not a far superior team.

Our offensive line looked like they were lost about half the time. The other half the time they looked like they weren’t sure if they wanted to be there. I find this mind-boggling. We can put the blame on Mike Cavanaugh because he’s the offensive line coach, but the players have to own this as well. There is too much talent amongst these players to perform like they did on Saturday night.

You probably did not spend three hours watching Facebook live on Saturday morning like I did. Our podcast guys interviewed a number of former Husker players, and amongst them was the great Aaron Taylor. Taylor talked for quite a long time, and one of the things he said was that he liked Mike Cavanaugh because Mike Cavanaugh was coaching the things that Aaron Taylor knew.
