Christopulos Claims Big Ten Freshman of the Week Honors

Freshman Taylor Christopulos was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week Monday afternoon for the second week in a row. This honor comes after another impressive performance by the freshman during the Big Ten tri-meet against Illinois and Michigan on Sunday, Feb. 21.

Christopulos notched a 14.70 on vault to take his third vault individual title despite the Huskers third place finish on Sunday. The freshman has claimed the title for vault at each meet so far during the 2021 season. This is Christopulos’ fourth individual title.

Christopulos is currently ranked No. 1 on vault with an average score of 14.733. He is the highest ranked Husker on the event since Anton Stephenson finished the 2019 season ranked in the top spot.

The Layton, Utah native also competed on floor, rings and high bar. He finished with a 13.15 on floor, 13.10 on rings and 11.40 on high bar.

“I am so proud of Taylor. His hard work continues to pay off,” said coach Chmelka.

This is Christopulos’ second consecutive Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor and third weekly honor this season.

Michigan’s Paul Juda was named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week after an impressive all-around performance against Illinois and Nebraska where he scored a 85.60.

The Huskers return to action Saturday, March 6 against Ohio State at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The meet will be live-streamed on BTN+ at 6:00 p.m. CT.
