A Pro-Active Approach Pays Off for Lincoln Police

A police surveillance leads to the latest arrest of a bank robbery suspect.

Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister says 21 year old Israel Holmes was apprehended Tuesday by an investigator who was outside Lincoln federal Savings on south 48th when it was robbed because of the special surveillance.  Bliemeister says the citywide bank surveillance project is meant to prevent heists and catch robbers.

Chief Bliemeister says that the investigator caught Holmes as he fled from the bank and jumped a fence at 46th and Antelope Creek. Bliemeister says the suspect dropped his cellphone that was running a police scanner app.

Chief Bliemeister says that five of the ten bank robberies in Lincoln this year have been cleared and he says that more could be with recent arrests including Holmes.  Police are looking into Holmes possible connection with recently arrested bank robbery suspects and other bank robberies in Lincoln and elsewhere.
