$5 Bits of Broken Chair Trophy Reveal

The coming out party for the new trophy came in with a bang!

It all started with a couple of fans browsing the CFB reddit looking for a way to bring back the fan-started trophy. Most, if not all, trophies are created by the conference they play in. $5 Bits of Broken Chair Trophy is fan created trophy that has been revived. Patrick Vint at SBNATION did a good job rehashing the history of the first edition. Go check it out.

The trophy was carefully recreated utilizing the new Makerspace on Innovation Campus. Attention to detail of how the original looked was evident when holding the newest version. It is pretty much an exact replica, however, there will be some slight changes which include a back plate for engraving the winner and score of that year’s game. An idea also exists of etching which fan base gave the most money that year fundraising.

Last night, the internet famous trophy recreated by some Nebraska fans with the help of some Minnesota fans helped make a new version of the trophy. The party was held at Blue Blood Brewery and featured the Nebraska Pep Band including a bunch of eager Nebraska fans. The trophy is representing two different CHAIR-ities: the Team Jack Foundation and University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital. All proceeds will be split 50/50 between the two organizations. The goal for this year is $5,000 and from talking to the group last night, it sounded like they were well on their way.
