Nebraska Organizations Urge Strengthening Of Programs that Fight Hunger

On this week of Thanksgiving…a group of Nebraska organizations are urging Nebraska’s elected officials to strengthen food security programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Nebraska Voices for Children spokeswoman Julia Tse tells KLIN News that alot of children in Nebraska are experiencing hunger.
Tse says a recent report shows SNAP lifts 34,000 Nebraskans out of poverty each year. Food Bank for the Heartland CEO Susan Ogborn says the vast majority of Nebraskans who receive SNAP are working families with young children.

The organizations  are urging Nebraska’s elected officials to not support legislation that allows for drastic cuts to food assistance, which are currently on the table in federal budget discussions.
