NCAA releases Academic Progress Rate for Nebraska sports programs

The NCAA released its most recent Academic Progress Rates for various sports programs at Nebraska. The Huskers’ women’s rifle and tennis teams scored a perfect 1,000 for the 2016-17 academic year.

This means all academically-eligible athletes stayed the full year, none were suspended for academic reasons and none left midway through a semester.

The APR measures graduation rates for athletes who stay the full term and don’t go professional.

Nebraska football scored a 980 for the 2016-17 academic year. Baseball scored a 986, and men’s basketball a 974.

Women’s basketball and volleyball scored a 995 while softball scored a 993.

According to the NCAA, the APR is calculated as follows:

  • Each student-athlete receiving athletically-related financial aid earns one point for staying in school and one point for being academically eligible.

  • A team’s total points are divided by points possible and then multiplied by 1,000 to equal the team’s Academic Progress Rate.

  • In addition to a team’s current-year APR, its rolling four-year APR is used to determine accountability.

  • Teams with lower than a 930 four-year rolling APR are not allowed to compete in championships.
