Wide receiver Keyan Williams announced on Twitter Monday morning that he has been granted a release from his scholarship with the Nebraska Football team.

A native of New Orleans, Williams came to Nebraska in 2016 after transferring in from Fresno State. He sat out the 2016 season due to transfer rules, and missed nine games in the 2017 season due to a hamstring injury.
Williams made only one catch in his Nebraska career – it was for 19 yards in the 2017 season-ending 56-14 loss to Iowa on Black Friday.
The son of former Nebraska receivers coach Keith Williams, Keyan said in his statement Monday that reuniting with his father was a big reason why he came to Lincoln in the first place.
“But I instantly realized why the University of Nebraska, and the city of Lincoln are so special,” Williams said in his tweet. “I know I have gained some lifelong friends, and I’ll be receiving my degree this summer (in criminal justice), so I’ll be a Husker regardless.”
Williams thanked current Nebraska head coach Scott Frost for “giving me an opportunity this spring.”
He suited for the spring game on April 21, but didn’t log a catch. Williams had a team-high six catches for 69 yards for the red squad in the 2017 Red-White Scrimmage.
Williams becomes the fourth Husker to leave the program since Frost’s arrival, joining Zack Darlington, Patrick O’Brien and Ben Miles.
Nebraska now has 11 scholarship receivers left on roster.
