Frosted Flakes: Women’s Basketball Update and More Frost In the Forecast

Scott Frost news and an update on women’s hoops after the first two games of Big Ten play.

Amy Williams earned her first Big Ten road win on New Year’s Eve when the Husker women’s basketball team defeated Minnesota 79-74. They held a high-flying Gopher offense (averaging nearly 90 points per game) in check and played some great team offense. Four Huskers notched double figures in scoring (Simon-18; Whitish and Eliely-14; Cincore-11). The two freshman, Kissinger and Cain, were not far behind with 9 and 8 points respectively.

The Huskers trailed through most of the game and came from behind to take a late lead in the closing minutes. They were able to ice the game at the free throw line; something that has been a bugaboo for this team. The Big Ten conference website statistics were not posted yet but the last time I checked, the Huskers were dead last in the conference in FT%. The Gophers fell to 12-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference. This was their first home loss of the season.

Three days earlier, on December 28, Nebraska fell to #12 Ohio State 73-61 in a game that was more competitive than the score indicates. The Huskers did not play well offensively and turned the ball over 23 times. However, they kept it close because of their defense. The Buckeyes were another high-powered offense, averaging over 90 points/game.
