Bye Week In Nebraska: The Calm Before The Inevitable Storm

Nebraska is a quiet place this week. More so than usual. Sports talk radio hosts won’t even entertain the notion of talking about the upcoming Northwestern game next weekend. Nah, they’ll just keep feeding the excuse bonfire with clap-gate logs.
We are exactly halfway through the regular season in college football and the Nebraska Cornhuskers are sitting at 5-1 — just about where most people thought they might be. Some might thought they’d be 4-2. Few thought they’d be 6-0. It’s all gone just about the way we though it might on paper.
Then you look at the rest of that schedule. It looks a little different than it did a couple of months ago — even maybe a couple of weeks ago.
How many wins are you willing to write in with a pen? How about a pencil? How many losses?
Before the season began, Rutgers wasn’t a threat. They were the worst team in the Big Ten East and one of those games you could write in a giant “W” next to with a big, black Sharpie. Now Rutgers is one game away from bein…
